It's listed in PufferPedia as SW, but I've seen them in some LFSs in Brackish. PufferPedia seems to imply that not much is known about them...is this true? I've got to think that some people have had some experience with them, as I've seen them available pretty often. They seem pretty cool.

For the last year or so, they have been showing up very regularly in the trade.

That said, most people find they are nearly impossible to keep alive for very long. I think they prefer much cooler water than most puffers.

Beautiful though, aren't they?

As far as what you see them in a store as.. heck, I've seen stores keep GSP's in freshwater, dwarf puffers in brackish, SAP's in brackish (yeah, thats just great for a south american fish). They think puffer=brackish in many cases, and most of the time they think brackish = freshwater with a few tablespoons of "aquarium salt" in it, which is not even close to "real" brackish water.

One person who knows a good bit about them is a mod here named Chin. She hasn't been around lately, but if you PM her she might get back to you... eventually ;)

...that is if you are really interested. I would say not a beginner fish by any means.

"Fugu" is is a genus name, not a species. Are you speaking of the Takifugu ocellatus species?

Yes. The store listed it as Fugu, but I figured that they'd call any of them just "fugu", so I looked on pufferpedia and that's what it's listed as on there.
