Dog Face has white dots, looks like goose bumps!

What's your opinion of this thead, on the Aquarium Advice site? Would you agree that the white bumps are stress related? Or do you think it's ick, or worse? It's not sand, they don't rub off. Odd. He's eating and ok otherwise. Interesting site ... but thrust the 'word' of the folks here on The Puffer Forum!

mine has the same exact thing as yours, they started appearing 2 years ago and i thought it was ich, after performing treatments and hyposalinity I found out that they get them sometimes when they puff up. I can't remember where i heard or read about that but i saw him puff up and he had a new batch of those bumps afterwards so i called it case closed. I assume it has to do with the spines

Should post this one up to Puffer Queen at her forum in Marine Depot. I'd be interested in her opinion on this.

They do get marking such as those after they puff. If those marking are there all the time then I would be investigating further.

He hasn't blown up at all. I guess that's good. ? So I don't know.

What you mean is that you havn't "seen" him puff, doesn't mean he hasn't done it.

Those markings: Most likely related to puffing and apparently harmless as already noted.
What it is exactly: IDK. Would have to look at it under the microscope.
I suppose it may be some material (old, alterated mucous with old skin cells?) that comes out when the spines come out while blowing up, but is left behind after the spines are back again.
Come on PP... we had this puffer a few times in your very forum. It is a
Marilyna pleurosticta. Brackish to marine, occasionally entering rivers, Northern Australia. Send them over here and tell them to make a search for Marilyna.
