New Marine System

Well, after Hurricane Ike decided that we had to lose our old system, here is the new and improved version!

The 175 gallon oceanic bowfront/stand/canopy with 60 gallon sump + wet/dry filter and red sea berlin skimmer. The tank has 4-8" of sand (deeper in the back) a tiny amount of rock (just set it up the other day) and the water is still clearing (had water in it all of 48 hours, but was set up before so the bio media is still 'alive').

(For reference, the mag-float on the left side is the 2nd to largest!)

(Complete with haunting reflections...)

The system:

~1200 gph through the wet/dry, and ~400gph through the skimmer

(The foam padding on the return hoses is for noise reduction...I've managed to get the tank almost silent!)

The inhabitants:

Baby Mappa (likes to throw hissy fits when not fed...constantly)

and a baby brown-banded bamboo shark egg (no pic).

Anyway, we're excited about our new system, and hope to provide you guys with more pics soon!

Have we met? You look familiar. What's with all those foamy bubbles?

Sorry about your loss during IKE :(.

Your tank, system and puffers are awesome! Tha Mappa is amazing. The dogface is Cute, Cute, Cute! I know all about a puffer throwing fits to be fed. I have a gsp (not the one in my ava & sig) that throws a fit every time I walk to the tank. Acts like he never gets fed...

I went to IMAC a few years back Jeni, that's the only time I think I would have met you...?

That's not foam on the drip tray, it just looks like it from the camera flash.

Thanks for all of the compliments! I love the Mappa :) Fed the two puffers a clam on the shell today...Mappa pigged out and Puff (the dogface) didn't eat any lol. Mappa is growing sideways faster than longways - no food for him tomorrow!

Yeah, went to the last 3 IMACs, I live 10 minutes from there. Must've gone out w/Bob & the Crew.

So they were picking at it? Won't the hatchling try to eat the puffers?

I love the idea of the foam on the tubing. If I ever hook my sump back up I'll have to try that.

Nice setup!

? Bamboo shark hatchlings (and in general) are pretty placid, benthic sharks, and they're not piscivores, so no worries of fishy snacks. Even an adult bamboo shark would have trouble fitting the mappa at it's current size in it's mouth, if it were so inclined.
