can a bronze puffer get 11" long as i have seen quite alot of site on the net saying they get to this size but quite alot of other sites says they get about 4.5" long.
does any 1 have 1 so no the true size off them?

if your talking about A. modestus or silus, then no neither of them get over 4 or 5 inches, but their is a puffer that looks similar to the modestus that gets that big, Xenopterus naritus, but i have never seen one and i don't think they are apart of the fish trade.

I don't believe that Xenopterus naritus and Auriglobus Modestus are synonomous. I think there is a similar, significantly larger brackish water species with spots, but don't quote me on that.

C. naritus looks like a massive and large version of a A. modestus at first glance. It has much more finrays.
The Auriglobus species and Chonerhinos naritus get mixed up a lot online.

Chonerhinos naritus is the currently right name for Xenopterus naritus (I know fishbase is not up to date regarding this species). Kottelat explained in 1999 that naritus actually belongs to the genus Chonerhinos and that those puffers that were considered as Chonerhinos by Roberts in 1982 (among them modestus, silus) should be in the new genus Auriglobus.

The only good picture I have is in the Aqualog puffer book page 67.
I know of no good online picture, I'm 100% sure it is this species.
I would not exclude this species occurs in trade, but certainly not often.

Fishbase doesn't list a common name for Naritus. Is there one?

I've seen "Bronze puffer", just like one of several common names for A. modestus.
Another one for C. naritus is "Large golden puffer".

i put a post on here about my lfs and how he said he had a cream globe puffer and i could not find anything about it,so i called up the shop to chat to some 1 else about it and they said that the sunday staff got it wrong and that it is the green puffer aka bronze puffer and the 1 that gets 9" plus and is rare.
it does have big fins on it and is really deep in body all the way along,i would love to buy this fish if it is the larger rare puffer but dont really no how to tell them apart.
any clues?

I'd take a picture of the anal fin and the dorsal fin (easier to count on pictures than a swimming fish).

If the dorsal fin has more than 34 fin rays or the anal fin has more than 27 rays it is the large Chonerhinos naritus (probably should be kept in brackish water). All Auriglobus have less fin rays (less than 29 on the dorsal fin and less than 23 on the anal fin).

Yes, we've seen a lot of "fun" stuff on that page before. Have a look at the confusion between fluviatilis/nigroviridis. AND they have an own page for Ceylon puffer, where they don't know the scientific name. They've managed to make the travancoricus into a tetraodon and not a carinotetraodon, and have managed to put a pic of a palembangensis as a color variant of a miurus. How is it even possible to think that a palembang is a miurus?

Sorry for going off topic. It's just been a while since last time I visited that page, and there was a very good reason for not going there...

I remember seeing a picture of one once though on TPF before.... Maybe i'm just imagining things, but it was much larger and brackish.
