hey guys, was in the lfs today and they had these small puffers in a brackish tank, they had red tails and red eyes but their bodies sort of loked just like an f8. The guy said they were red bellied puffers. The last time i saw what they called a red spotted puffer it turned out to be an Abei, this doesnt look anything like it. Any ideas?? I would have taken a picture but i'm really bad at the phone camera thing!!

Most likely a Tetraodon lorteti.

Or an irrubesco.

But the lorteti and irrubesco aren't they freshwater puffers?

Just because they are freshwater doesn't mean the LFS actually care about that, so they just put it in whatever.

Poor little puffers...

I have an irrubesco and I really love him! The males are dark and the females are a kind of yellow and brown.

i think it is a lorteti. It has red fins and tail and red eyes and the top of his body sorta looks like a f8. I called the store and told them he should be in freshwater, the guy there didnt know what kind of puffer it was either, so he told me he was gonna slowly bring his salinity down. His sg was at 14. I felt really bad. Hopefully he will be ok. I have a bunch of empty tanks now, maybe i will pick him up and give him a better home.

Oh well that's good of the guy at the shop to bring it down to freshwater, instead of just telling you to dodge off like many others would!

Most LFS insist that all but the known SW puffers are BW.

Hmm i have seen a few of these before. they look really cool.

Theyre really cool looking but i heard they are wicked aggressive. If i end up getting him, ill let u guys know!!
