Oh my god.....my husband has been over feeding my fish while i was doing a training at work, i didnt even look or check the water, i have been so busy.......
so today he ate my husband said and was fine.....by the time i turned the lights off he was laying on his side, i freaked out...immediately scooped him up in a net.....and he Blew up!!!!!!
He is about 8 inches now...and when i went to take him out of the water he was the size of a softball......when i put him back in the water he was moving his mouth expelling air..so i knew he was still sort of alive....
i IMMEDIATELY filled up a pot of water with warmer water and plopped him in.....he started to deflate and after about 20 minutes was swimming the sides.
i changed all of the water...almost ..probably about 85 % of it...siphoned the rocks and sure enough...gross poo in there and food.
i hope he lives!
i wanted to let him sit in the pot until tomarrow but was afraid the cats would get to him, so he went back into the tank.
he must have been poisoned by ammonia..the devil ammonia and nitrates!
on a weird note.....i think my red finned sharks are makin babies...lol. they have been actin funny. not dying funny, but like doin it funny.maybe they are fixin to lay some eggs.
anyways....Think he will live?????

I see no reason why he wouldnt so long as you are on top of your water conditions.

oh i hope so.....i cant believe he puffed like that..i was ready to take him out and bury him...it was horrible. my 5 year old was crying, i was frantic.....geez.
i hope he makes it through the night, i told my husband to not touch the tank..i will feed them after work. LOL
he feels bad anyways..almst killed my favorite fish!
hes gotten soo big, he was a 2 1/2 - 3 inch puffer now hes more like 8 inches and just a cutie
we all just love him...i will be bummed if he doesnt make it.
hope the ammonia didnt damage him too much..i know he needs time to get all of those toxins out of his blood...so i will see .

It's a good thing yu didn't leave him in that pot. He might have either jumped out at night or poisoned himself in there with his own waste. All he needed was 1 poo to do him in. Do another 80% WC tomorrow & check the parameters.

This sounds awful, I do hope he's OK - any news?

My husband is not allowed to feed the fish while I'm away. He's only allowed to feed the kitties. Hope your little guy is ok. I would do as pufferpunk said, another water change maybe two depending on water quality.

My hubby fed my GSPs an extra shrimp once, while I was away for a weekend--said they looked hungry. Needless to say, I came home to a cloudy, crashed tank, with 1/2 dead puffers, gasping for air at the top of the water.

my tanks are 6x2 8x3 and 10x4 my partner feeds them in the mornings and me in the evenings. Its extremly hard to overfeed them are 2 are community tanks with 60-100 fish in each so its all eaten. she wont clean the tanks yet but im training her

He thought brackish was 1.05 instead of 1.005

Needless to say he's not allowed near my tanks anymore

Wow that's horrible!
That musta been a ton of salt!

You know one of those huge buckets of Instant Ocean that's supposed to last like a year or two with a light brackish tank, or Full marine one even. (at 32gal) Well he went through *almost* a whole one of those in a MONTH.

The fish lasted for a good 2 weeks in Hypersalinity. 1.02 then...1.03 then 1.04 and he finally died at 1.05
