For my planned figure eight puffers these are the things that i am thinking of getting (hopefully i will actually get round to doing it this time):

-Juwel 125 aquarium and cabinet more info here - http://www.seapets.co.uk/product-detail ... y/938.html
-B&Q Play-Pit Sand Natural (B&Q is like the UK version of Home Depot. http://www.diy.com, if you care.
-Red Sea coral reef salt
-API master test kit
-Instant ocean hydrometer
-Hagen glass thermometer (or a digital one maybe)

Just wanted to see what you thought. I've probably missed something off. If you look at the link that goes to sea pets, it shows what else come with the tank like lights, heater etc. I was going to choose the fluval roma 125 but the juwel comes with better lighting although still probably not enough. Also, they both say 125 litres (33 gals), which the fluval is, but the juwel's measurements make it come to about 145 litres (38.5 gals)! Now, this may just be because they have included the hood or something or it is just a typo, but who cares. If i can possibly get an extra 20 litres/ 5 gals AND better lights for just £13.95 extra, then it must be worth it . Anyway please tell me what you think and if i have missed something.

PS. If anyone has the juwel rio 125, how big is it?

Also, what do you think of the sand cause i was unsure about this. I've read that a lot of people use the play-pit sand and it's only £3.78. Don't know how much you get but if it's for play-pits it must be a reasonable amount.

The sand is likely fine. The one I hear more often to get is the pool filter sand. As for your salt, do you have Instant Ocean in the UK? The Red Sea stuff is likely a bit more expensive than you need to pay for a brackish setup. I could be wrong on the price, of course.

Unfortunately i don't think we do have that over here, at least not that i've seen (if anyone has see it over here please say ). I will have a look at pool filter sand. What are the benefits, is it finer or something?

Red Sea have pretty much got the market cornered over here

I have no idea what the difference in the sand is. If I had to guess, it probably doesn't pack together as hard (I'm just speculating based on the name), so it might allow less anaerobic pockets. Just keep the amount of sand in the tank to about 1 inch high; any more and you'll increase your chances of having anaerobic pockets which can potentially wipe the tank.

oooo I shall have to look at both of those, thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone! I haven't had look at the price of filter sand yet but my feeling is it is probably not as cheap as good old Tesco!
