Hi all i have just got home and found my nile puffer lay eggs all over the tank has the happened to any one else will get some photos up asap

Right on! Congrats, you have a female T. lineatus.
This is the only way we currently know to sex them, the females are known to lay eggs quite often with or without the presence of a male. Sadly that's as far as it has ever gone...no captive breading yet.

Thats crazy, even though I would not go get a male quite yet. I always think about breeding fahakas time to time I think the only way to go is a tropical pond, they are going to need plenty of space to keep out of each others way. You do have a very good chance to work out the difference between male and female though, Thats what I think you should look into

look in breeding section in my topic about breeding niles. Really i would strongly suggest do not do it! if you do really follow what i put sectioning them youll need to brace the support very very very well i cannot stress this enough. when they are ready to go in with each other youll see a complete change in nature!

ok found some info on breeding nile puffers its a question of getting the time right, i have read that the female has a spawning papilla and that you can only see this just be for mating. Then after a short mating dance the female lays her eggs then leaves, the male then can do his bit and the eggs are then left to hatch. One article i read said that this puffer is all most extinct in the river nile does anyone know anymore about this?
