Guys.. my bumble (f-8puffer) died.

I don't know what went wrong. He had been acting funny ever since I put a new cave in his tank.. but I don't see how that would have killed him.

I'm completly lost. I loved that fish so much, and I hadn't had him very long.

I feel like such a bad owner right now..

I only had him for 2 months. However, i was looking at some photos a few days before he died, and noticed that compared to the photos, he looked very thin... what would cause that? COuld that be why he died?

that cave or watever u put in there, prolly released some chemicals into the water........

Could the fish have had intestinal parasites? That is pretty common in wild-caught puffers. Was the fish eating well?

The rocks shouldn't have released chemicals. They are tank-safe...and were cleaned througly.

As for the parasites, that is what I'm suspecting. I was actually going to ask about them before he passed. His belly almost always looked tiny, not round like most puffers i see online.

He was eating fine though, loved snails more than anything.

Man, this is so hard. I didn't think I'd get so upset over a fish. I could barly keep myself together in class today.

My boyfriend really wants to get another.. I guess I kind of do. I put so much work into this, and I love puffers more than anthing. I just feel like a bad owner right now. I wish I knew why he died...

Oh no, are you serious? My poor bumble. I wish I would have known.. I wish I could have helped him.

If I ever do try puffers again, how would I go about ensuring that a future puff dosent have parasites? Or how do you get rid of them?

These are when I first got him.. does he look abnormal? He was actually a little more sunken over the past few days...

Was Bumble always in a 6 gallon tank? That is a little small for a F-8. Recommend 10 - 15 gallons minimum for a Figure 8.

Good information to know should you get another puffer.

Lunarflame - that's how my figure 8 looks when it's feeding day (I feed every other day). Did bumble always look that thin?

Also, how were your nitrates in that tank? When I had mine in a 10 gallon (he's now in a 20), I was doing 50% water changes twice per week.

I'm really sorry about your loss...my first figure 8 never recovered from the illnesses he brought from the store - it's so easy to get attached to puffers really quickly!

I was actually cycling the 10 gallon to put him in.. he was in the 6 for two months and was full grown. The nitrates were fine.. and i did water changes 1-2 times per week.

And he always looked thin. Even after feeding him he only had a tiny pudge for a couple hours, and then looked thin again.

Yeah - that definitely sounds like IPs...bummer. We've all learned disease/parasite diagnosis the same way at one time or another, so you're not alone.

Yeah, im slowly getting over his loss. I buried him yesterday, i couldn't bring myself to flush.

The LPS has some new puffs now, just getting ready to be brought out of quarentine. Im going to look at them today.

I really hope the same thing dosent happen again. But just to be safe, im picking up some lavimasole.
