well here is the issue yes i want to take him to full marine and i think he is lonely right now in the big 55gallon tank...im just not sure of a good tank mate since im slowly raising the sg and the tank will end up marine...once marine i know of lots of fish id like to put in there with him.

Raise the salt level only .02 per week to keep the tank from crashing. Is your tank cycled?

get a hydrometer and then when you do your water changes you can pre-mix MARINE salt into the water and get it to the correct SG using your hydrometer.
Once it is fully mixed in (so it doesn't feel gritty anymore) you can add it slowly to the tank...
What SG is the tank at now? If it is fresh then you need to mix enough salt into your water change buckets to raise the tank to 0.002 ...
then the next week raise it again to 0.004 and so on....
as for measuring the right amount of salt it is trail and error. Just put some in, wiat for it to all dissolve and test... you'll soon work out how much to add to get it to where you need it...

It does take a while, as you can't shock the fish by dripping over from fresh to marine, and you can't shock the bacteria by raising over 0.002 a week...
you can add live rock at 1.020 and begin adding other fish after that (once quarentined..)
so that's only about 5 months...
GSP's also don't need full marine until they are quite big, so as your guy is only an inch it will give him/her time to grow as you slowly raise the SG ..
Good marine tanks come along very slowly.. but in the end it's worth the wait..
