Hey guys, my lfs has a couple of show tanks that they NEVER sell the fish in. Well, one tank has this awesome F8 in it that i've always admired but they would never sell it. It just so happens that he has been causing some problems in their tank, basically they said he's eaten over $100 of the fish from that tank and now they wanna sell him. My question to u guys is, hes in straight up saltwater 1.028, should i keep him in that? My other F8 (rip mini ellen) was in brackish 1.008- 1.012.

You're sure he's an F8 and not a Ceylon puffer? Seems odd that they'd keep him in such a high salinity...

How big is he?

1.028 is higher than I keep my reef tanks at! If it really is a F8 & not a Ceylon, then you should slowly drip it back to BW. Do you have a tank ready for it? What SG is that tank now? Sounds like it'll have to be kept alone.

It looks just like my other f8, i dont know why he was in a tank with that high salinity either, my saltwater tanks arent that high as well. Hes about 2 1/2 inches long. Hes def gonna be the only guy in the tank.

I agree with dripping him down slowly. It will take a couple of hours to do it because just dropping him in or doing it too quickly is going to send him into shock.

I am putting him in the tank that my other f8 was in. That tank is 1.008.

F8's definately don't seem stressed by full SW short term, as long as they're slowly acclimated. When my ex's F8's first came home with me, I had no place else to put them and had to let them share the full marine tank with my GSPs, and they never seemed stressed by it. I'm sure it would be bad for long term health, that's why as soon as I could get things together, they made a move to a 29 at SG 1.004. But full marine for periods of time doesn't seem to kill F8's outright, I'd guess it's a similar effect to freshwater, just shortens lifespan and makes them more prone to illnesses.
