The Puffer Forum

I'm considering getting an irrubesco puffer but i'm having a hard time finding any solid info on them. Can a single puffer live comfortably in a 10 gal? There's a one eyed irrbesco at the pet store that I work at and nobody wants him because he's missing an eye.

Here you can read about c. irrubesco. 10 G is too small for an irrubesco, I'm afraid.

Irrubesco is my favorite puffers. They are very agressive even towards each other. They are easy to care for They love my frozen blood worms and they are very messey eaters so be sure to clean up after they eat.If the tail of the irrubesco is red surely is a male because females doesnt have red tail and have black line pattern belly which male does not. Be sure to have a heavy planted tank or they will chill agaisnt the glass all day. People say they can grow up to 2 maybe 3 inch only but i have seen with my own eyes up to 4 inch max.

Hey thanks for the replies. I didn't realize that i hadn't originally posted this under the FW puffer section. =P Sorry about that. Well I don't have room for another tank right now So I guess he'll have to wait for some one else. BTW is it true that they do better in pairs?

IMO, I think you should take the fellow for your 10g, especially if it's a female (they'e smaller). I think you'd give it a better home than it has now or in the future. No tank mates.

I'm pretty sure the puffer is a male because he has a red tail fairly large... maybe a bit over 2 inches? Males have red tails and females don't right? He looks like he's starving though and a bit stressed too... poor guy... he's in a little 10 gal tank w/a bunch of mollies and platies...

Anyone else agree with Pufferpunk? I was thinking that I'd take the puffer, fatten him up a bit/make sure he's healthy, and see if I can find someone on this forum or another puffer forum to give him a proper home.

Nah, dwarfpuffers.com regularly send people here for other puffer help, and we have many of the same members, they're very much complimentary forums.

Besides, there's nobody else weird enough to be obsessed with puffers.

They finally opened up a Puffer forum at MFK! Still waiting to find out if I can Mod that one.
