Could they be Mates

I am a new member and have been lurking for a few weeks. I just changed from reef tank to aggressive tank. I have a few corals left just mushrooms & tube anemones.
I recently lost a saddle valentini after having him for only 3 weeks. I still can't figure out what happened to him. I heard a splash after light out ,looked & looked for the puffer & couldn't find him. The only thing I could come up with is he hit the glass on light and knocked himself out & drowned. If this is what happened I am sure the hermit crab from hell & bristle worms had him eaten by morning.
So my question is can I put a saddle valentini & a blue spot puffer together in a 30 gallon tank? I also have 2 lawnmower blennies in the tank. They are both small puffers and I think I can, but wanted to get more opinions first before my purchase..
Thanks,
Mamie.
