Darker shade on my puffer then before

My stars and stripes seems to be getting a darker color mostly when he is resting against a rock is that something to worry about?

My stars get's a tad darker when resting also. He blends so well with the rocks, sometimes I have a hard time finding him.
He's only around 8".
You wouldn't think you could loose an 8" fish.

Queen is right - 100% normal. Puffers often rest literally on the bottom of the tank or vertically against the wall, between some rocks, whatever they find comfortable - their skin tone changes often. Many believe this to be due to their surroundings (much like a chameleon and many other animals) however my personal opinion from keeping puffers for quite a bit of time has taught me that yes it is somewhat based on surroundings but also on mood and activity. For example one of my Mappas tends to get very light tan and his black markings get very black when he knows food is coming - he is also very active during this time. When he is resting (or full), his colors darken completely to the point where I have to look for awhile to find him!
I Imagine its a combination of both to be realistic but again - totally normal!
