which puffers are more readily available

I want either a palembang puffer, brown puffer, or arrowhead puffer.
are these guys hard to find and how much do they usually cost (in the USA)
I was also wondering if I could keep palembang puffers with south american puffers. (like 2) in a 40 gallon tank.

out of my personal experience i've only every seen a palembang out of those puffer, and as a matter of fact it was for the first time two days ago. it was 60 bucks. i've never seen any of the others in person but puffers are sort of rare around here other than dwarfs and the occasion GSP or Figure 8. sorry i can't help you out with the others, but the price of a Palembang is 60 bucks here, hope that helps.

well I live in texas and it seems that we can get fish in really easily. I have placed a few special orders and the fish came in whithin a month. I guess what i really want to know is how much do palembangs usualy cost?
on a side note we get in SAP's a lot and I can find them for like $4-5 at the lfs.
has anyone ever tried monotrete palembangensis with colomesus asellus?

Minimum tank size for a Palem. is 40 & I do not suggest mixing those 2 species. Other than the SAPs, most FW puffers are fairly vicious.

ok well i have a 40 that im redoing and i was thinking about getting a palembang.
alright are there any fish you can put in with a palembang? faster fish like danios or barbs?

^^ if you want to roll the dice... but eventually.. you'll loose your other fish and have a fat puffer

I have an arrowhead and he was $25 I think. My local sap was $18 Are you sure the puffs you are seeing are saps? The might be Dwarfs they usually run $4-5 range. Everywhere i have seen saps they are $17 and up.
You won't get away with keeping fish with a piscavour. My arrowhead watches every little thing in the tank and if he is hungry he gets the fish at night. So if you are wanting to try multiple FW puffs in one tank I would stick more to a SAP and DP tank. They cohabitate really well.
I have seen some people get away with more than one arrowhead in a tank. You would need lots of plants and hiding places. You might even get lucky and get a mating couple. I think a 40g would be a little small for that just for territory reasons but you could put a divider in.

If I got a mating couple would they get along forever or would i need to separate them?

Thats what i'm not sure about. Rocker has succesfully mated and raised arrowheads on captivity but he has been on in a while. I have the same question. He actually has three T. suvatti in the tank and his pics don't show a divider so I'm assuming that you can keep them together forever....but you know that assumtions are the mother of all.....
