hey guys,

finally tracked down my fahaka. he/she is around 7-8" at present.

just wanted to know, does anyone know what their eggs look like? ive found a big string with 2-3mm white egg at 5mm intervals all the way along... something like this:

---0--0--0--0--0--0--0--0--

just wondering what it was and if they are eggs why did she lay them now in her new home?

i acclimatised her over a 2hour period on sunday night and this morning (tue) her breathing rate seemed elivated. she did eat monday eve, i fed her musslemeat. which she loved. im just not sure on normal fahaka behaviour... seems nothing like my scatty GSP!

perameters are fine with my nitrAte a little evelvated. im going to transfer one of my nitrazorb sacks over from another tank tonight (nitrAtes out of tap are 40ppm) i hope that this will calm her down.

cheers,

Gareth

Sorrry, it's just pufferpoo. Fahakas scatter hundreds of eggs all over the gravel.

thanks pufferpunk,

its poo? even if its white? ok :? looks like ive got loads to learn!!

she has settled in fine now i think. how often should i be feeding and how much? i was going to aim at every 3days, but im not sure how much. i gave here 3 full mussells the other day, which made her stomach swell a little. this seemed ok. any guidelines i should follow?

cheers for your info :)

Did you say you got the puffer from Wharf?

yes i did.

i went up to sheffield over the weekend to visit a friend and on the way back to bristol i popped into wharf aquatics as i hear their pretty good. i phoned all around the uk looking for a puffer 2weeks ago. no one had juv. fahaka's. wharf had one at £120 and i know that exeter aquatics had another at £100.

when i got to wharf i saw the one they had told me about. he was just resting and looked drab with a price tag of £120!

after looking around more i noticed another one that was smaller and not labelled. i asked the guy about it and he said he'd just had it in. some guy was moving and didnt want it anymore. hed dropped it into the shop 2hrs before i arrived! i asked how much and the guy went off, came back £70...

spent 1.30hrs thinknig about it because i really wanted a smaller one to grow on. but thought i would kick myself if i left to go back to bristol without it. so, i bought it. and she is great :D im really happy with her.

ive got a gsp but i absolutely love these fahaka's i think their awesome. since i started keeping fish 3 years ago, this has been the species of puffer i have always wanted to keep.

any problems with wharf rocker?

As you know they are voted UKs no 1 year after year.Excellent shop IMO. I know some of the guys there and 2 of them write for Practical fishkeeping. My fahaka came from there as well. There stock changes so often its difficult to keep up with what puffers they have in.Did they still have the T.abei puffers in labelled as 'fangs'?
