heres a quote from pufferpunk from aquaricentral
"Try hanging it vertically, head up, tail down, under water & shake. I did that to mine after it puffed w/air. Mine burped & swam away. You can also try pressing on the chest to "burp" the fish."
it would be my guess, kinda traumatic to have to do that but you need to try and get the air out of the puffer so i would try it.

Thank you,
And thanks Pufferpunk, I have just got my husband to tip it up to get the air out, it started to puff and he lost his grip but as it deflated i burped all its air out.
But boy isn't this puffer having a bad day, just come down from upstairs to hear the pump going mad and the dogface was stuck on the sump intake which had started syphoning, i got my finger between the pipe and puffer and it now seems ok. if not a little sulky. Is this a comomn problem with puffers and if so how can you stop it happening without putting a cage round the pipes????
Cheers
Lisa

Do you have any kind of screen across the intake?

Hi Pufferpunk no i dont (well i have some netting over the pipes but apparently that didn't help), what would you suggest as a screen. when it was my tropical tank i had a cage round it but that really affected my flow rate, the intakes are gravity fed so no suction as such , i guess the puffer got too close then puffed and got stuck. as i said it is having a bad day.
Thanks
