Hi Folks,
Wanna know if anyone here has any experience keeping this puffer and whether its FW or SW... me confused about that. Reason being, of the 3 sites I found that describe this fish, 2 says FW to Brackish while one says Brackish to SW...

Please help me out here...

Dr. Ebert in his Aqualog book on puffers lists the fish as brackish, specifically mangrove swamps, but says it also enters rivers. That is the best source of puffer info available, but offers little more of that fish.

Have you actually found one? I haven't heard of one of these species avvailable in years.

I think that someone reported them on one of the web dealer's lists not long ago, but I don't know if it was real.

I had one in my early "puffer-days".
Killed it due to my inexperience...

My LFS does quite a bit of direct import from the East and is keeping an eye open for this specimen.
I will inform you guys if it shows up on a list.

Yeah, Just like my T.Abei (Name is Sunny), this guy (Name is Baris: Malay for line) was the last one in its tank. I guess its easy for me to find it here in Singapore as we are very near to where most of the FW puffer fishes can be found (South-East Asia).
Initially I thought it was one of those artificially injected colors... Checked around and found that it was a true blue puffer. Asked about the source and the perimeters of the tank it was kept in but the shop assistant does not know (Alas, ignorance strikes again). All he could tell me was that it had been kept in that tank of Fresh Water for 2 weeks and its still doing fine.

Right now, I am keeping it in a Brackish tank setup with coral sand as gravel. Have some caves and some Nanas in it too... would post a picture once I can get it to stop zooming round the tank.

Right now, all of them are doing fine... and I have set up a thread on an aquatic forum in Singapore asking people to just pluck pesky unwanted snails from their tanks and to hand them over!!

Free food supply...

Yes, these puffers are also called "Samurai Puffer".
I seem to remember them described as fairly aggressive.

That's right... these guys are described as Samurai Puffers too... though I have no idea why...
Guess I would never know the full extent of its agressiveness... cos all my Puffers are in specimen tanks... I could describe how it eats though...

Unlike my other 2 puffers... the Red Line attacks the food (snails, Blood worms) with an initial bite (Initial-B)... then it pushes it out of its mouth again and nibbles.... kinda cute... [/code]
