I just got a new Porcupine puffer and it is so cute, but...

I need some advise on what i need to pay attention to
It's about 3inches
tank pH: 8.2
SG: 1.023~1.026
nitrite is a little bit high
Ammonia less than 0.2
nitrate is 0.1
live rock and sand cured
tank is probably too small for it, but it is really cute that i wanna keep it~so XD

it looks fine right now, just checking the little tank out.
gonna add some picture later

Sounds like you jumped the gun here... Your LR is not cured. I would try to reeturn the puffer until it is.

Large water changes are in order.

how do i know when the rock is cured??
the nitrite was high maybe cuz of two dead snails?
I will do 50% water change tmr when I got the salt

any more thing i need to pay attention to?

Where did you get the rock from? The fact that you have some ammonia, high nitrite & little nitrate means it is not cycled. You could try doing a 50% WC & adding SW Bio-Spira but I have a feeling you are not in the US to purchase it.

How big is the tank? What are your plans for upgrading?

I got the rocks from LFS, only like 5min from my home, i test the ammonia nitrite and nitrate before and after i add the rocks, they are all 0, but after i found the 2 dead snails, they raised. the cleaner shrimp and hermit crabs are doing fine.
hehe, actually I live in California, u feel i m not in US probably cuz my grammar LOL,
Hope it won't died when i get home.I will do a water change and add Bio Spira.
the tank is 46gal right now, but my boss is gonna give me his 100 gal soon. (hope my parent let me keep the tank)

tysm for the fast reply.

Bets are... LR from your LFS is rarely totally 100% cured. Once removed from the ocean, it is exposed to air. Then put in holding tanks for a while & exposed for quite some time until it is delivered to your LFS. All the time it is exposed to air, the bacteria & live organisms in the rock, die off in droves.

It's face looks discolored, I think it's sick. I'd return it to the store ASAP and try to get a refund if possible.

I would do daily water changes until the parameters are correct to start.

As long as the fish are gone now, I'm going to lock this thread, so you don't have 2 going on about the same subject. As far as cycling your tank, why not start a new one on that subject, in Marine Tanks?
