New setup for a GSP

I just got a GSP that I will be putting in a new 50 gallon tank with a rena xp-2 filter. I will be using some of my ceramic filter media from another FW tank To cycle the new tank. The GSP is in FW right now and is roughly 1 1/2". I know to slowly acclimate him by increasing SG no more then .002/week so it does not kill off the bacteria in the tank. The question I have is the water to use as I acclimate him. Should I use RO water as I do the weekly PWC so that eventually the whole tank is RO with seasalt or is my tapwater good enough? My tap water is ph=7.6 and kh=7. Thanks for the help

I would recommend getting a protein skimmer when the SG goes over 1.005, it's amazing how much yellow gunk it removes. I've just got a cheapish air driven internal one.
I use tap water and haven't had and problems yet.

I don't know if a XP2 is big enough for that tank.. I use an XP3 PLUS an eheim classic 2213 on my 40 long.. but I like lots of filtration.
Definately consider the skimmer though as your salinity goes up.

I would not trust rena XP2 For 50g tank.
The over filtration is necessary for a tank with puffers.
I would propose the eheim classic 2215 In collaboration
with the rena xp2..

Thanks everyone. I just plan on keeping 1 GSP in the tank. Eventually I will get a protein skimmer as the salinity increases and also plan on doing a 20 gallon sump under the stand when all is said and done just to give me 70 gallons to make it more stable

filtration is a touchy subject. i have personally seen a 90gl with 3 8inch plus chlds ,plus a huge plec go for over a whole year without a water change or any cleaning of the filter. needless to say when i cleaned the tank it was the worst kind of mess i have ever seen, but the fish were alive and swimming around .
point being is if your only going to have the 1 puff that filter will suit you just fine.
