Mappa's get huge and fast. They would also probablly attack each other. I would definitely not do it.

No way could 2 mappa's last in a 50 gallon tank for 3 years, except if you do like 2 90% water changes a day, and have filtration for a 200 gallon tank running on it, and even that probablly wouldn't be enough.
Also The 2 will probably attack each other, regardless of the tank they are in.

I would also be concerned about the growth stunting that can occur.

I have to agree with the guys here, even one Mappa couldn't survive long term for 3 years in a 50G, as Yunachin says it will be severely stunted so will die young and have a very unhappy life. I would think that a tank of at least 400G for two if it was just a case of water quality but given the fact that they can inflict serious damage I would not put two large fish together to compete for food and territory where there is no space for the less dominant one to escape
