The Puffer Forum

Unfortunatly my fugu died this week stopped eating and died thats about it unfortunatly .
Tried keeping him in brackish conditions but without success so i guess that method is out of the window.
I have replaced him with a takifugu niphobles who is pretty cool and very settled in marine conditions here is a picture of him all seeing eyes he is called

I also have a porcupine who is doing very well in my reef system here are a couple of pictures of him

caught him towards the end of being puffed up


hope somebody unlocks the answer to the t ocellatus riddle because the are lovely looking fish

Porcupine Puffers are sooo adorable! I think it is because of their big googly-eyes!

Except for the spines, I'd like to take it under the covers w/me!

I agree porcupine puffers are great fish this is my first, and have always wanted one.
I feel though that my hermits, snails,corals are on borrowed time from some opinions I read.
At the moment he pays no attention to them at all but with puffers in my experience things often change, I dont know what you guys think

I had a takifugu niphobles, he jumped in my pre-skimmer, got a nasty wound and died months later of a horrible infection. I had him for 2.5 years and I am sure I would have had him for many more. I am in the process of upgrading to a 120g reef ready so I will never have that worry again.

My advice is to PLEASE get him some nice fine grade sand. They burry all the time and with large crushed coral they can really hurt themselves or not even burry. So please look into it.

I went from having to hand feed him while he was burried, he wouldnt swim if I was in the room for the 1st almost year and right before his accident he would eat from my hand and start swimming when ever I came home from and start begging.

He buries pretty much all of the time i know the gravel looks course but its made up of mostly fine coral sand and the course gravel seems to sit on the top.
He dosnt seem to get any injuries and spends most of the time submerged in it apart from the odd swim around and feeding time.
Its good you got yours so tame and im sorry you lost it,they dont seem available over here too often.
Did you have other fish/crabs with him? and how did he get on with them? mine has 7 green chromis, a common clown and a sally lightfoot crab all get on fine.
