Would you risk it?

I have a community tank which i really want to put my F8's into for a while. At the moment they are in the bedroom and i just never see them!
In my community tank is a clown fish, Pakistani loaches, red tail shark, couple of tiger barbs, and 2 angles.
I know its a risk, but anything there a no no?

F8's need BW so that right there makes that a no no. They would probablly eat the angels fins and the shark and barbs may be aggressive towards it.

Yes, by clown i mean loach.
If F8 are brackish fish why are there so many articles on the net saying that they are fresh?

I get that newsletter, and most of what Shirlie Sharpe writes is good info, but F8 puffers have been found to do better in BW longterm. the rest of that article is pretty good though. The pufferpedia (under the "learn" tab) has a bit better one though if you want to read that.

Personaly I would not put the F8 into your community tank.

If you take away the debate of whether or not they are bw or fresh it doesn't matter in your case cause puffers in general just don't make very good community fish. When I was researching the topic of whether or not they need brackish I came across more articles that said yes they are brackish than I did freshwater. Also and now this is just my opinion, yes in the wild they live in freshwater more so than brackish but if you think about it the freshwater they live in will usually be in an esturary and I would imagine there would be more minerals and whatnot there seeing how it's right close to the ocean and does have a raise in SG from time to time. Now when we make our home tanks brackish this provides some of the minerals they would have in the wild

The man who did this research, wrote an article on F8s but has never documented his decade-long study, as far as I know.
