hi i am soon going to have a beautiful puff and would like to know all i can about feeding how much do u feed them and what sea food is safe for them to eat. are pond snails any good for them or should they be bigger snails thanks.
any one own them

i have one and there great personable fish they eat like a cow and will eat blood worms mysis glass worms cockle shelled muscle ( get a half shell at like meijers ) or something like that) and pretty much anything else thats healthy for a fish to eat minus prepared food like flacks and pellets pond snails are perfect just put some in that are about the size of his eye to prolong or possibly prevent any dentistry you could also go rams though but try to stay away from the malasyan trumpet snail ( although it is in debait of recent) they can chip a beak and or hurt your puffer

It will eat various things, but it will most definately like krill.

Try to identify it as either an Auriglobus Modestus or an Auriglobus Silus.

hi and thanks for speedy reply, more questions i have seen a pic of urs in the gallery section (groovitudedude) and he looks the same as yours, ( jimi ) he is unfortunately being fed on catfish pellets as this is the cheapest option and he eats them a friend of a friend has agreed to sell him to me as i think he has lost interest, im glad, as he is not being looked after he is in a 20g with a couple of plants and passes the glass, normally i wouldn't rush in to things but i couldn't leave him there i am buying a tank for him today and going to cycle it first i have a 68L tank all ready which has 2 honey gourami and 2 Otto ( as puffs are aggressive its a shame i can't put him in there for now) i was going to use some of the media from this tank and use it in new tank i just hope he is OK while i sort out a tank for him
i have some pond snails in my 68L might get some more and see if they breed how many should i feed a day, don't wanna over feed, do u feed them once a day with blood worms or sea food and snails. thanks again

i feed mine a large serving of food every other day because all my puffers are fattys and i have to look after there health but every day will be fine if you buy cubed blood worms a cube and 2-3 snails sould be fine ( i just drop in a hand full or so at a time and keep an eye on the number left because it gives the stalking of snails gives him something to do to definetly deter bordem with him for starters and the filter media sould cycle the tank fast so he will be in good hands soon enough good luck with him

We have two different types of puffers. Is yours more golden or greenish?

he has a point i have a modestis ( sp) and he has a silius

I think what was meant is that it looks like groove's silus then addressed jimi on the feeding.

Well, yeah, I guess the ID isn't very important right now. My one doesn't eat bigger snails, but he loves small ones (about less than 1/2 an inch)

thanks everyone i bought him home yesterday is so cute i don't know how they could have got bored of him. i bought a tank yesterday which was 35 L as the filter media for the tank was much smaller it worked out better, i just replaced the new filter media with some from my 60L tank, i put 25L of new water in and used 10% of water from my 60L and left a peace of muscle in there i checked out the water today and the ph was high so going to get a piece of bog wood, ammonia 0, nitrite, 0 and nitrate 20 does that mean its ok ? he hasn't gone for the gourami yet and they don't seem to be bothered by him but i will move them as soon as i know the tanks ok. i bought some muscle for him yesterday but he just spat it out so today i bought some bloodworm and krill he spat the krill out but loved the bloodworm i gave half a cube but i will put some more in there now i know he needs more there are snails in the tank but he didn't seem interested he knocked one of the glass but didn't try to eat it im going to by some more to see if he will eat any. i have taken some pics of him i will post them soon as the computer is messing about, how do u know if his beak it to big i have taken a pic of his mouth so u can let me know what you think he seems to pass the glass in one corner i don't know if this is habit or he needs to get use to tank i have 2 big silk plant and lots of small plants for him to explore but he seems to wonder and then pass any way sorry for the long post but wanna get it right

How big is he? I kept my Modestus with two gouramis with no problems, but Pufferpunk's has killed multiple fish. Try to find out its temperment asap. Currently, I keep my Silus with 8 Zebra Danios with no problems, but all puffers are different.

about 6-7cm , there honey gourami and not that big but he doesn't chase them but if they get close he swims towards them im sure one of the gourami winds him up sneaking behind him and swims of when he notices him but he doesn't seem to be interested in them, but i will keep a close eye on them just wanna make sure the new tank is ok for the gourami jst loading some pics of him ill post them in a min in the gallery section, whats the difference between modestus and silus? aww i need to think of a name for him or her

Modestus are usually more green and slightly larger, while the Silus are usually yellower and smaller. Some of the members are currently working on a pufferpedia for the A. Silus. Yeah, definately keep a close eye on him.
