Tiny Black Spots

Hello again,

To fill everyone who didn't read my last post a few days ago in I have a 125 fowlr (saltwater) housing a large Stars and stripes puffer. I have had the aquarium running for nearly two years and there have not been any recent changes. A week or so ago I noticed his belly looked a little different and bulked out in areas it usually doesn't during feeding. I assumed it was constipation and you guys/girls were great help with the suggestion to get peas. I fed him peas and noticed bits of them all over the sand the following night so thats a good sign. I'm also changing his diet and getting him off the silversides, shrimp, and krill. I picked up mussel, clam, and squid and I have fed him mussel with a tiny bit of krill the past two days, he loves it.

Now to get onto the point. I have noticed tiny black dots on his white belly. At a first look I thought it could possibly just be his color changing a bit with age, the majority of the dots do appear to be the skin color of his dark stripes located on the side of his body. However there are a few small darker (black) dots that don't look like skin color but rather something attached to his skin, like little fleas. I would hate for this guy to have parasites and I have no idea how they could have gotten introduced, I haven't added any rock, inverts, for probably close to a year and he's the only guy in the tank. Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated!! Sorry there isn't a picture, I will try to get one tomorrow morning before I leave for work to help out more on pin-pointing what this is.

They could be fish lice - see if you can tempt him close to the tank glass for a closeup inspection...
