The Puffer Forum

So the little tyke finally arrived a few days ago, and she was emaaaaciated (the guy said he didn't feed her for 3 days before shipping)!! To make it worse, she wouldn't eat her first night here, which I guess is normal. So I tried feeding her a scallop the next day and, she finally ate a little. Yesterday she had some snails and mysis soaked in selcon (actually for the other fish, but hey, as long as she's eating, I'm not going to complain). And just now she got some shrimp; most of her tummy is still quite sunken in, but you can see a little bulge where the shrimp went - very satisfying.
No pictures as of yet, as I work all day, but my day off is coming up, and I'll try to get some snapshots of her. She's settled in quite nicely, though. Already starting to beg and to try to eat my fingers through the glass, and also above the water when I'm putting food in.

Bad news, though, her eye looks a little funny, the left one, we think it might be from when she was stung, and the whole shipping/moving thing has aggravated it. It has healed on its own really nicely, and is almost gone, though, so hopefully that will be that.

Anyway, just wanted to give an update (mostly for PP, in case Spoot hasn't msged you yet).

She was really chubby when I gave her to him to care for. Although she's the only puffer of the 3 I gave him that survived... I can't complain, as he did take them for me & hypoed them & all. I have a feeling he musn't have fed them very well, although he said she ate well. She should fatten up in no time--she ate like a lil piggy for me.

None of it sounded like his fault. One died while he was out of town & had his wife taking care of them. I just don't think he knew very well how to care for puffers. Maybe he should have asked me.

Yeah, I have a feeling she didn't eat that much at his place too. I'll fix that though She loves to come and beg for food already

Excuses, excuses!

She's been eating like a little piglet. To fatten her up more, we're trying to feed her more than once a day (when I'm not working). So hopefully she'll get rid of that sunken belly soon, she already has a little bit, which is nice, but she's still too skinny for our liking.

She was the fattest burrfish I've ever seen.

Are you still going to call her Devlin?

I started calling her Devlin, but with her being so skinny, it just seemed like such a big name for such a little girl, so I've started calling her BabyBurr Devlin, or BabyBurr for short.

She'll be big Devlin in no time!

Yup, she's been eating like champ. Although not as piggy like as our ceylons, who would explode if you let them.

She doesn't want to pick food of the sand that she dropped though, so we have to make sure things are bite sized for her. We also use chopsticks to hold the food until she comes and gets it.
