fugu question

after reading some older posts Im assuming that it would probably not be a good idea to purchase a fugu ,
when only having a 100 ga tank , I really cant upgrade to anything bigger not at this time at least ,
after a year or 2 he would probably need a bigger tank right ? or maybe even sooner .
or would i have already stunted him by leaving him in the 100 , ( that would be unfair to the wild caught )
any suggestions on other puffers that dont get so big but are similar to the fugu ?
thank you for your comments and or suggestions

Takifugus are not a giant species. It also depends on which fugu species you are planning on keeping but I would think any of them would be fine in a 100g.

my favorite is the Takifugu ocellatus. it has a minimum tank size of 55, so I think it could live a wonderful life in your 100. does anyone know if it is reef safe though?

I kind of doubt it, especially since it needs lower temps. It's not even fish safe!

well then I guess that means is he willing to have a FOWLR species tank, or look into a puffer a little easier to deal with...

Several fugu species vary from warm water to sub tropical temperatures. They are ambush predators and will require a sandy substrate for burying. Not social either, these fish will spend the majority of the time hiding. They scare easily and are very erratic. I keep mine in an area in my house that doesn't see a lot of traffic so he doesn't get spooked.

Perhaps a narrow lined puffer would work. They only get 6 inches in captivity.(i think)
