Here is my new valentini, he is eating well, and already showing alot of personality including something that is a little alarming to me. He puffs alot, it actually does not seem like a full blown puff, just a little bit and for like 5 seconds, is this alright or is he in trouble?

Such a cute lil guy. Every time I've seen one they always seemed so pale. Your's does credit to the species.

He is showing his defensive 'half puff' in the second photo. I found that my valentini did this when he was threatened by something eg when i added another puffer to the tank or if he was freaked out by something eg when i did water changes.

Is there anything in the tank to scare him? Is he still doing it? They can take awhile to settle into new tanks

I want a valentini so bad they are so beautiful!! I finally found one and I am so close to buying it! I have a white spotted toby and I have never seen it puff I was kinda let down since I heard they get upset when being moved and usually puff. He never has and I don't think he will he is very mellow but nothing seems to upset him. Oh well I am glad that he is happy in his home so hopefully he won't puff!
