Tetraodon Pustulatus(Cross River Puffer).. Price Tag?

I have the opportunity to buy a Tetraodon from my very reputiple fish store here in Arizona. What do you think a fair price is one? I go and take some pictures but he is close to 6" and very very active. He is the Store Owners Personal Puffer, but he wants him to go to a home instead of being in the store.
Is $500 fair for an extremely healthy Tetrodon.
I allready have a 150 Gallon tank ready and waiting. I was going to wait for my Red Kongo Puffer, but that has now become a Pipe Dream.
O and my Fahaka is now over 12" long and eating Live Soap Dish Crabs. He is a great Puffer with a ton of personality. O and he has a tank mate also. A 15" Pleco. So far no nips have been taken out of him, but I wouldn't put it past him.

The way I understand it is that it's really rare in the trade to find a true pustulatus so before you make a move make sure you can ID him (best way being posting pictures here!). There's a lot of young fahaka's sold as pustulatus and they are not worth the same price range!
Also have you read the pufferpedia about pustulatus and tank size and all? Just to make sure, you're not planing to put the puffer with your fahaka are you?

Like is said in my first post. I have a 150 Gallon tank that has been up and going for alittle over a month with nothing more than some snail and ghost shrimp in there. The Tetraodon will be in there alone. My Fahaka allready have his own 150 Gallon Tank next to the other one. I guess I will just have to purchase another big tank for my pipe dream of a Red Kongo Puffer.
From what I have looked at on here and all over the web the Tetraodon is just that. When I go into the LFS on Thursday I will take a few shots of him and the MBU that was just Surrendered Sunday. The MBU is 13" or 17" I forgot what the Owner said when I called earlier today.

Two 150Gs?!?!!? That's pretty sweet already. Yeah, post pics on here, some fahaka owners will ID it for you, and then try to get some money off of it; it's a beautiful fish, but that's more expensive than my tank!

to answer your question, 500 is fairly reasonable. at a good HEALTHY 6 inches. you arent looking at a bad price. please post pics on here so we can see if hes actually healthy. i have no doubt that you came across one however. but id hate to see you spend the money on an cross river when you are getting a fish you can get much easier.
i actually had the same issue myself recently, i wanted a cross river soooooo bad. i re-thought about it and decided i didnt want to risk anything at paying that sort of price. again, only my opinion. if you have the whole 150 deal you should be fine. especially if its already set up.
even if you dont end up buying it, it would be a treat seeing it.

You certainly don't need a large tank for a Congo. A 20g will suffice--they don't move around a lot.
You definately should get a positive ID here, before you go spending that much $$$ on that puffer.

Based on prices here in the UK and the current exchange rate that sounds quite good. There were 2 for sale here recently, a similar size and they were £300 each, really lovely andI was tempted - but glad in the end that I waited to find a Fahaka instead as that was what I originally wanted and also under £20!

I have yet to see a confirmed ID on a pustulatus, They are always fahakulatus or pustuhakas

They end up being fahaka once they mature. there is some thought that they are just a regional variant of the fahaka or some type of morph. Too much money for me to shell out.
However I'm keen to see a picture

The ones I saw were at Maidenhead Aquatics Farnborough, definately 'similar to a Fahaka but certainly not the same. I never took any pictures but there must be a chance they are still there - not many people would pay out that much to buy one. They were really beautiful though, as I sadi, I was very tempted at the time!

I wasn't going to jump to any conclusions, but yes it does look a lot like one.
