I have a new marine puffer in a Q tank that has developed severe ich after 3 day... I was thinking, could i....

give it a freshwater dip for 15? 30? minutes to distroy the cists.. matching the Ph and the temp to the Q tank...

then place it into a brand new Q tank filled with ich free water from the main tank...


wouldn't that kill the ich and prevent it from re- occurring? Wouldn't that be faster and simplier than taking the whole Q tank down to hypo?

Technically/theoretically, a freshwater dip should kill the salt-water ich.

A salt-water dip is recommended for freshwater ich, timings of the dip depends on the concentrations of the salt.

give it a try, but keep an eye on the fish at all times, and if s/he starts turning sideways up then put back in salt water before they go belly up, and repeat 2 or 3 times daily or as necessary

I was told if you do a freshwater dip.....don't do any less than 30 minutes or it's useless.
