absolutely gorgeous.

never seen one in someones tank. id love to own one some day...and ive heard so little on them

who would like to share some expriences.

Are these puffers actually freshwater? They look too cool to be fw, but I don't know....

And do they get as big or bigger than fahakas?

slightly brackish if anything. they get nowhere near as big as fahakas, but in my opinion way more colorful and better looking.

better attitude too, but prolly not as active to the owner.


and the best part.

very aggressive.


theres a pretty big leap between them and the other two large puffers, being fahaka and mbu.

Hmmm.... too bad they're not as common. OR, too bad Mbus aren't less common, considering that there's very few normal people that can actually house them.

They are FW fish, extremely $$$.

Nope, never seen one in person. I think there are more rare ones than than that. No one's seen a T schoud. for sale in the aquarium trade for over 20 years.

that makes sense, but one of 20 in america? i dunno seems kinda far fetched to me. it looks like it would be more of the sort of things you gotta either special order, or know someone who knows someone.

which would be why its so expensive.

worth every penny?

Depends on how many pennies you make. For a millionaire, buying a $600-700 fish is no bige deal. Not so in my house...

I would love to get one, it's just so hard to tell them from juvenile fahaka's. And I don't think fahaka's are worth $300-$700

You can special order all you like, but getting a fisherman to the region to catch them and get them back and out of Cameroon which is why they are so rare... Cameroon isnt the most peaceful place on Earth. Plus the cotroversy of getting one that looks more like a Fahaka than a Pustulatus, you pay your money you take your chance. I'd only part my cash for one with no lines, only spots and a base colour that is nothing like a Fahakas.

My LFS had T. pustulatus on their list once, the distrubter was asking $250. I couldn't get pictures of the fish so I didn't want to risk it (they're usually mislabeled young Fahaka's).

I contacted Rehobotha Aquatics once as they keep T. pustulatus on their list. They claim that they get them in regularly and charge $150-$450 depending on size. Once again, a bit of a risk without pictures.

that is so shady. but they should come with some sort of guarentee. at least to pay that sort of price. in my experience at least the privately owned pet stores are usually easier to work with that way rather than say a petco or petsmart, plus ive noticed their distributors are more exotic with their fish.

i wonder if anyone has ever payed the price of a fahaka and gotten a cross river instead. i would be so pleasantly suprised.

on the same hand i wonder if anyone had...they returned it afterward because it wasnt a fahaka.
