Fahaka smaller than expected

Hi all, I think I may be being overly cautious but here goes.

First of all tank is 5 x 2 x 2 with 2200lph flow filtration PH 7.2, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5-20 depending on change. 60-90% water change every 7-10 days.

I have had my Fahaka just about one year, when I bought her it was from Japanese water gardens about a week or two after Rocker first noticed them in march 07 and at that time she was 2-3 inches.

When she came home I put her on her own in a well established 35 gall tank, at 2 inch I considered that to be ok and ordered a 5 x 2 x 2, this arrived 4 weeks later and I transferred her with the filters to the new tank.

She has always been happy and is constantly on the go, if either my wife or I move she is there to see us. She has spawned twice now, once in January and again a few days ago.

I feed frozen raw king prawns some with and others without the shell, Frozen live mussels, Frozen cockles, ramshorn/apple snails and the occasional small live crab. All frozen food it thawed in tank water for an hour or so.

At just over a year old she is approx 4-5 inch long body and another 2.5 inches of tail.

Is this stunted or slow growing as I expected from other articles for her to grow a lot more.

She is fed until she has a rounded belly most but not all days and her current size she will eat either 3 to 4 inch of king prawn or 5 mussels or 6-7 cockles or 10-12 fully grown ramshorn snails.

I must admit that I don't have any experience with these gorgeous fish but all I can see from the evidence is a very happy healthy puffer. It may just be that she is a small specimen, you know some people like pint sized Salme Hayek and others like lofty Uma Thurman, it matters not to me as they are both gorgeous specimens of the human form. Much like you puffer she may just be a tiddler but sounds like she has plenty of personality to make up for it ;)

I would not think that you have stunted her and as a wild caught 2 inch fish she shouldn't have been stunted elsewhere before you got her.

Dwarf perhaps, you would expect it to be bigger at that age, perhaps thats all it may get to, mabe only a bit more. It's not like it hasnt been gven the space to grow.

I believe there are rumors of smaller overall size, near identical looking fish originating in smaller streams of the same range. Maybe one of these?

I believe the Lake Rudolf ones are smaller. Although it seems to be sexually mature, it may still grow to twice its size under your good care within a few years. It takes them about 5 years to reach a maximum size (experience with 2 specimens I knew).
