Acrylic vs Glass

Hello,
I am looking into the new large tank for our Mbu, I am hoping to get something that is say 6ft by 3ft by 2ft (L x W X H) and has a greater surface area than a more standard 7ft x 2ft x 2ft tank. I do not have a limitless budget and am of course limited by the width of my front door! Even if the tank is built in my house it isn't going to fit on the way out should we move out!
There are a few custom tank websites that I am browsing but not many offer tanks over 2ft in width, unless I am missing something! I am therefore considering an acrylic tank which would be cheaper, lighter and could fit these dimensions? My only concern is of course the Mbu's beak damaging the acrylic. The question, to which I am interested in people comments upon is would an acrylic tank be safe to house a Mbu if the thickness of the acrylic was say an inch? I understand that the acrylic could still be scratched but I would hope not fully broken....?
