OK... SO I've had my puffer, Olivia, for about 10 months now - I got her from Wal Mart. She has really grown but has a different shape than my other puffer, Finn. Finn is "torpedo"shaped and Olivia is "club" shaped. I started doing some research and it turns out that there are 3 species that are very very similar - but one is strictly FW. They are the Green Spotted Puffer (T. nigroviridis), the Green Puffer (T. fluviatilis), and the Congo Spotted Puffer (T. shoutedeni). The GSP and the Green Puff are brackish where the Congo Spotted Puff is strictly FW. Now, the GSP and the CSP look almost identical with club shaped bodies - looking at the pics I cant tell them apart. The GP has the torpedo shaped body and is supposed to me more aggressive - I think that is what Finn is... Olivia can't seam to have a moment's peace.
Here recently, I have started turning the FW to brackish as their rite-of-passage into adulthood and its making Olivia quite moody. Finn loves it but I don't want to hurt Olivia- she's my favorite.

Im trying to decide if Olivia is a GSP or CSP. Has anyone heard of getting a Congo Spotted Puff from Wal Mart? The web sites said the Congo puffs are more docile - and that is definately Olivia. I will provide some pictures of Olivia and any help would be appreciated.

It's definately a GSP. Congo puffers are rarely ever seen.

All the pictures look like green spotted to me. T. fluviatilis have stripes on their back instead of spots, like this:

Your puffer is a T. nigroviridis.

T. schoutedeni is easily recognized by its mottled back and almost never traded.

Thanks guys! Just wanted to make sure I don't add salt to a FW puff - maybe it's not the salt making her moody - maybe it's Finn Maybe she needs more "alone time". They're in a 40 gal breeder - it may be time to upgrade the condo to a 65gal.

Thanks!! I try to provide lots of cover and holes without interfering with their hyper-swim moments... so I leave the length of the front clear.
