Thank you! I am sorry I forgot and didn't give you the info. I imagine that must get so irritating for you guys to keep having to ask us those same questions over and over again.
It was Tues that I noticed his left gill was a bit flared and red. I left it alone and just watched him.
On Wed I noticed the left gill was fine and then the right gill was flared and red. It had been 5days since the last water change. This was also the longest I had gone between changes. It was then that I checked the water. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate was between 10-20, SG 1.008. I also did ph and it had gone from the usual 8.2 down to about 7.6. I then did a water change and checked nitrates and ph the next day/ yesterday. Nitrates were back down to 10 and ph was 8.0. The ph test is only about a mth old.
Last week I had taken an old piece of wood out of the tank. The wood was melting so to speak. I added about 5lbs of Coral , a few more sea shells and a bubble wand along with about 5 new plastic plants. I only have plastic and silk plants. I have a biowheel for a 50 gal that has been running for probably 10yrs. My tank is 30gal. I have gravel substrate which I'd like to change sometime soon but not until Harry's gill looks better and I plan on waiting for possibly a week or two beyond that just to be safe. Last night I unplugged the bubble wand because there were so many bubbles in there. Thought it might be stressing him even though it's not his fav side of the tank.
Other than the gill he still looks great, is eating well and buzzing around the tank. The gill doesn't look better or worse today. He's all alone in there. I haven't checked his water today but I did go grocery shopping for him.
What's really bizzare is that the F8's that I got from a different store did the same thing but their gills declined quickly. I figured I'd had a ph spike from using RO and tap water. I cleaned the heck out of that tank after those babies died. I'm puzzled.
I'm really fatigued today so I'm sorry if this post is a mess. I tried to proof read but sometimes that doesn't work.
