from what I can make out from the pics he looks pretty well

can you give us details of behaviour and what you think might be the problem as it is difficult to tell from the pics

I don't think the problem is the GSP, he seems pretty happy, eating well, no "up and down the glass" boredom behavior.
I think perhaps the problem will be with the CAE!!

I think he means that the problem is that the puffer is in with the algae eater.

Aha! sorry, I just assumed that possible tank-mate issues had already been addressed, I thought that was just common sense to see if things were compatible before putting them together (although I have fallen foul of bad advice myself in the past)

I would take that CAE out immediately. I had one in with Milton before I knew anything about GSPs. The CAE pestered and chased Milton and stressed him out like crazy. I took him out after having them together for a couple days. And then I found this forum and realized Milton needed brackish water which the CAE can't have anyways.

I have heard many bad stories about CAE, but I actually used to have one with Hootey before I started the salt. They seemed to ignore each other, but the CAE fell prey to a Fiddler Crab...
I would have to agree though, that Your CAE appears way too interested in your little guy.

Nothing mixes good at all with CAE. They are mean little (or big) things.
