After the id that my puffer is a Monotrete leiurus i was wondering if anyone could tell me how big he is likely to get! was guessing about 6" the same as the Barbatus but that is only a guess?????

Do you really have a leiurus? I haven't seen them around in the trade yet. I bought a "leiurus" once myself, but it turned out it definitely wasn't.

Thank you, i brought him as a barbatus but the general consensus seems to be that he is a leiurus. heres a pic of him:

if it is a monotrete leiurus it will get about 16 cm which is 6.2 inches. the old name is Tetraodon leiurus which is the same as above mentioned

I hope this can help you properly identify him. Getting other people to give their opinion is an excellent way to identify, especially if those people are very knowledgable like many of the people we have posting here. However, they do not usually have the privelidge of seeing it in actual real life (in front of them). So.. IMO, you can make the best judgement cause you get to see how it acts etc.

Ah ha! Thanks Corvus. I see the difference now. Its a pretty big difference. So ignore my excerpt on 'Barbatus' and listen to Corvus on 'Cambodgiensis'. I forgot they changed the classification on these guys. >.<

But to answer your Q--yes, the target species are lurkers. They lay in wait for food to swim by, mostly in their cave.

Mine is only active when he is hungry after lights go out! if the lights are on i can put my hand in and clean the tank etc, but lights out and he is very quick and is waiting at the top of the tank before ive even got the lid open!
