Well...the ceylon i claim that i have turns out to be South American Puffers. I been looking at the pufferpedia and find that my puffer is nothing like a ceylon that i bought from the fish store but look exactly like SAP. I conclued that the owner either lie to me or he dont even know what kinda puffer is it or maybe the wholesale dealer where he got it from lie to him. Well it doesnt matter now. I'll keep him anyways but the problem is the SAP is fresh water. I added 5 teaspoon of marine salt in the 10 gal tank. Hope he will not get sick or anything but so far he's good health, very active and eating good.I WILL NEVER TRUST ANY FISH STORES AGAIN. Thank god for this forum to guide me the right directions. As for my other Ceylon which is SAP now passed away 4 days ago for clove oil overdose. It was totally my fault becasue the first SAP was totally ok due to the fact that clove oil wasnt mixed in totally and by the time i put the second SAP the mixture was complete. I put one drop too many because my container was larger then the articalein the puffer libary. :(

wow, thats crazy! At least you realized this before you put anymore salt in.

I'm sorry about your other puffer though. I hope I don't have trim my puffer's teeth, I'd be too nervous.

A store near me in PA just got 6 SAPs. They are 8.99 each or 2/ 16.99. So $7 for a Sap is a deal yo!

I saw an SAP the size of a dwarf puffer on time. It was in the tank with them and it fit in with all the babies. I was really contemplating it but didn't like the idea of filing the teeth.

If you have, or have seen GSPs, they have basically the same eat habits (I believe). Eating behaviour is as follows:

1) Cute puffer makes smiley faces while swimming at the front of the tank (or wherever you happen to be standing).
2) Owner caves in and feeds his/her puffer a delicious food.
3) Puffer eats profusely, gorging itself on said tasty snack.
4) Puffer resumes smiley+face+and+begging routine in anticipation of more food.

;)

I suppose I could show you my two Ceylons eating, but you'll probably think I overfeed them, haha!

My puffers, all but the youngest one, actually realize that after they get fed, they aren't getting anything else for a while. It's a good test of fish memory actually, it seems to last until they sleep and wake up, after that, begging resumes.

So I have liked puffers for a while and am finally ready to jump in. I thought to start with some DPs. But I didn't know there were other FW puffers. Does any one have a pic of the SAP. I was told that DPs are the only FW spieces at an LFS.

i did check pufferpedia but i don't think it is put in categories of fresh brackish and marine.
ok edit::: I used your link it i see the freshwater now before it was just showing mistakes that users found
Thanks!

EDIT just checked 'em out I like the DPs of course and the SAPs are nice and the redtail-red eye looks good too. Do they try to bite you when you do gravel vacs?

My first puffer was a SAP and my first tank is what i put it in. Thought you could just put water in the tank and fish and then it would be good. 4 days later dead SAP. So i joined the website and have learned alot. I have two tanks now with 3 GSP and one Congo in them.

It depends on your puffer. My Abei isn't bothered by the vac at all and just floats around. One of my Ceylons runs to the other side of the tank, and the second one follows my hand around in an attempt to nibble on me (he's got me few times, haha). They don't hurt when they're young, though. :)
