Well I thought I would start a thread on the A. Stellatus - my girlfriend's absolutely favorite puffer that we have. He came to us about 7 months ago as a small nickel - quarter sized tiny little guy - he would even "get lost" in the 72G he was originally in. Well needless to say, (7 months later) he has grown to almost 6 inches and easily 4 inches around. Amazing how fast they grow! He is currently housed in a 135G with other great puffers but I'm sure we'll have to upgrade again soon...I will post pictures shortly but wanted to inquire as to who the other A. Stelltus parents there are out there and can you post some of your pics here? I'll be updating regularly and hope everyone feels free to add their A. Stellatus experiences...

Hope you have a huge tank.... I think the last time we had somebody with a Stellatus, it outgrew his tank (which wasn't very small), and he had to donate it to the Orlando Airport. You know what you're doing, though.

One day I hope to have some A.stellatus experiences to share but until then I shall just sit back and gawp. I look forward to meeting your cool puffer, does it have a name?

There are very few here with the capability of housing a fish that size. I believe we have one fellow here that makes his own HUGE monster tanks, jn the 1,000s of gallons. Maybe he can make you a tank!

Well thank you for asking - His name is Tiger - named after the stripes that Stellatus have when they are younger and eventually turn into the charactersitic black spots. He is the centerpiece of the aquarium - he is growing fast - I am looking forward to getting moved to Fort Lauderdale this fall. He/she will have a 800 gallon when I get moved ana eventually I hope he wil be one of the stars at the Tulsa Aquarium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its a relatively new aquarium that I hope to be the curator of eventually. My family is from there and I look forward to moving back one day...So yes his name is Tiger and I'll get some more pics posted soon...

Curator--cool! Do they have an opening? I had to correct the Shedd Aquarium here in Chicago, about their mislabled GSPs. They had them as T fluviatilis!

considering its a very new aquarium - in that it opened only 3 years back, I am hoping by the time I finish up in Florida, I will have a little luck with some inside connections obviously I don't anticipate just walking in and becoming a curator, no problem taking my time - family is #1 and marine bio is #2....so being in Tulsa (I know sounds weird being a marine biologist) is really important to me plus I have found that people farther away from the ocean seem more interested in seeing these animals over and over and over....Tulsa (for those of you who have never been) is an absolutely beautiful city - founded about 120 years back with the huge oil boom in Oklahoma. Many beautiful very old homes and areas that are now national historic areas, parks, gardens and quite a bit of foliage in eastern oklahoma. Oklahoma City (where I live now after graduating from OU in Norman) is much different - its the Oklahoma people think of - flat, dusty, yuck! Hey I guess its a nice place to live (kinda) but Tulsa has it all...of course I'll probably want to go back to Florida every chance I get - and the Carribean....

ugh. Last time I visited they had about a 20 Green Spotted Puffers and another 20 Figure Eight Puffers in the same tank :/
A much too small tank at that.
My friend wouldn't let me complain. mean.

Anyway! Back on topic, lol.

I'd love to see some pictures of Tiger He sounds awesome.
