The Puffer Forum

I'm so very happy. Daisy, my GSP is really coming around. Like alot of new GSP owners, i bought her based on looks, and had done no research. Luckily, the night I got her, I found this forum and read just about everything I could in the article section. The poor thing has survived being sucked up by the filter and an ammonia level off the chart (literally). I've fixed both of those issues (I'll never forget the doo-hickey at the bottom of the filter pipe again), and she is doing great. She's even started eating out of my hand and I swear she likes to flirt with my hubby

You know everything I read said that GSP are agressive, but she is the calmest little thing. Actually, the other fish pick on her - she always just flutters away from them. It's why I feed her by hand, the other fish tend to bully her away when it is feeding time.

Anyway, i'm super happy. And thanks to the articles here, I've been able to really inform my LFS about them and he has started giving out better information when he sells them to make sure people are aware of their special needs.

Nice work imafry. So many of these stories end up the other way around. With a lot of hard work, healthy puffers, money (I found out!) and the puffer forum it can work out. I know cause I started off on the wrong foot as well.

How long have you had Daisy? How big is Daisy? Hopefully as Daisy matures you will not see the common GSP aggressive trait.

Let's see, I've had her for 2 weeks now? She is small, just about 1.5 inches. She's a doll though I have a hard time getting her picture, she is so fast.

It's nice to hear about the things going right! I think an awful lot of us in here started out with no knowledge and a lot of misinformation when we bought our first puffer. Many has experienced losing their first puffer very quickly. But yours looks very healthy and is very cute. And so tiny! I am happy to hear you've done your research after you got her. That's the road to success!

I did also start out with a GSP (which is still alive and still in my house). I had by coinsidence read a Norwegain article about puffers that weekend in November 2006 (written by our own mod Woland - so he is the reason why I ended up with puffers in my house. Bad Woland! ), and thought that puffers were fishes I really could want to keep some day, but no, I didn't want the work it would have to do, and I probably would manage to kill it pretty soon - so no puffer for me). The next tuesday I came across a GSP in my LFS, the first time ever I'd seen a puffer. I had made up my mind that I wouldn't buy puffers (I didn't even have room for one), but this shop really didn't know how to handle one. I just couldn't let it stay there. After moving fishes around in my head, to make room for a puffer, and asking the shop is it really a FW species (I thought I could remember reading that this species wasn't FW, but I wasn't sure, and I really didn't want to go brackish), and the shop stating that it was, I bought her. When I came home, I double checked the FW thing, and found that again the LFS was wrong. They very often are. Well, my Bolla is still alive and living in the brackish water I didn't want to mess with. And after her, 11 more puffers has moved here. And Woland, it is all your fault!
