Just got him today. There was a guy that had him for about 8 months and decided he wanted a coral tank. He named him Elvis. He kind of reminds me of the King so I guess his name will stay the same. He is so sweet. He comes right up to the glass and gives you those puppy dog eyes. I thought he was a stars and stripes but I wasn't sure. His stripes are different than other's that I have seen. And as you can see he has no stripes on his belly. Thanks for the positive id.

I just realized I put this in the wrong section. I meant to put it in Marine Puffers.

There are variants in the species. This one looks like the Hawaiian variant. He is very handsome.
Don't worry, I will move your post.

Most definitely an Arothron Hispidus and I agree - he does look more like the "Hawaiian variety". Time will tell as the specimens collected there seem to get a bit larger and have different coloration in full adulthood - not alot different - there are lots of great examples out there. Here is another pic of mine...
By the way - you take awesome pictures! How do you all do that??

Thanks everyone! I took about 30 pictures then cropped them and kept about 6 of the best.

I think he is close to a year old. The pet store said they got him about 9 months ago and sold him to someone. Now he's mine, mine, mine!!! And I will love him and take care of him forever! If you ball up your fist (females only) he's about that big around and I would guess about 5"-6" nose to tail. He eats anything I give him. And can put a good crunch on a clam!
Edit: Let me clear up a line.

The pet store first got him in about 9 months ago and sold him. The guy that had him brought him back to the petstore while he was moving and then decided that he wanted a coral tank. Which means no puffer of course. I purchased him for the guy and that's how I got him.

Lovely puffer, I know asomeone else who had one of these called Elvis too!!!! Unfortunately his boxfish killed the whole tank though so Elvis has left that particular building
