The Puffer Forum

I was at my buddies pet store and he recieved a new shipment puffers. When he recieved them they were labled as giant green burmese puffers. I did some research and the only type of puffer I found was green spotted puffers. I told him to put one on hold for me until I know what type of puffer it is. Maybe one of you guys can help me out on what type of puffer it is.

Looks like a t. sabahensis. But is in pretty bad shape. Poor thing!

He probably needs a good meal after being shipped. Hopefully he will be fine.

I do agree he is in pretty bad shape. my buddie put them in fresh water but he also successfully transfered one into salt water.

Those would be T. Sabahensis. 100% sure. I have 3.

99% of the time.. those fish come into the stores looking like they just took a trip through some fan blades. Mine are nice to each other but.. surely too many in a small area for any amount of time will make them fight. My 3 are in a 75G atm.

They eat live crayfish, earthworms and meal worms. They tend to ignore feeder fish like rosies and smaller worms. However, they will not hesitate to eat any fish slightly larger than a rosy red. (ex. Corydoras.... my Saba's pwnd 2 of them. They didn't 'eat' them... but the Saba's had no problem trying a bite and killing them in the process.) I'd guess that they would also eat crabs and they will def. eat snails if they are just the right size.

These fish are EASILY saved with a little attention and love. Mine looked horrid when I got them. I put them in light brackish water and they all looked 10 times better the following morning. They can change their bellies color. Don't freak out if it stays black. They do it for a number of reasons. In order to get a feel for this fishes attitude, you should simply monitor it for a good 20 mins a day at least. You will learn his tricks fast.
