Okay so can you put clay pots in a tank? Like those reddish flower pots?
Can you put painted ornaments in a tank?
How do you know if a decoration is good or bad ?

Clay pots are safe, but painted ornaments not so much.

I agree. The chemicals from the paint would probably seep into the water.

depending on the ornament, I boil them and scrub the paint off. like the little rock cave thing in some of my pics. then it doesn't take long for algea to make them look natural again...

Scrubbing can take a very long time depending on what it is.

clay pots are fine they are actually really good to have for skiddish fish even breading purposes.
using really hot water then scrubbing it helps to get the paint off easier.
most ornaments you get at a FS use a specific kind of paint that shouldnt be toxic...yet you never know

don't get any of the bubble ornaments though, or things with hinges. the paint wears off the hinge then the metal can poison your fish.

Glazed pottery is ok, easily identified, and comes in nearly as many pretty colors as painted...
