Hey, I have a 10 Gallon tank that I would like to get fish for, I would really like to just get one fish and be able to concentrate on that little fishy. I want to set it up Brackish and I've done research but it is all different and I never know what I can and should be trusting.

I have a GSP in another tank and I wouldn't mind another Puffer but could they live in a tank that small? My other one is in a 30G tank.

I was told to cycle the tank by letting it run fully set up with a goldfish in it and doing weekly water changes. While checking the water, but I just want to make sure that I will do it right before I start on it.

Any help on the tank and ideas for fish would be greatly appreciated!!!

There is a fishless cycling article is the library, using a fish to cycle is pretty cruel and its just as easy to do fishless cycling.

You could get two dwarf puffers for that size, they are freshwater thought, not brackish.

You could *maybe* get a figure 8 but its usually recommended that they are in 15 gallons or more. You would just have to do more frequent water changes.

GSP need 30 gallons minimum. Thats a definite no in the 10 gallon.
Also goldfish are not good cycling fish, honestly no fish should be used for cycling. Read the fishless cycling article in the library.
A F8 could work, but there better off in a slightly larger tank. Theres not many BW or SW fish that could live happily in a 10 gallon. I believe T. Cochinesis can live in a 10 gallon (but they are FW and reccomended for 20)

If you mean m. cochinchinensis, I would definitely not keep one in 10 gallon. I keep mine in 22 G (if it's a cochinchinensis I have - I don't have a certain ID), and think it's too small. I would say 20 G is an absolute minimum for this species.

Go with a trio of DPs, in a nice, planted tank with a few ottos & larger shrimp. That would make a really nice tank! Be sure to read the article on how to sex them in our Library.
