My puffers + target IDs

Hi, I've been around this forum for a while, absorbing as much info as possible but this is my first post. I'd like to show off my puffers and possibly get some id's on my targets if possible.

7" Palembang

1.5" Fahaka - in quarantine being treated for ips.
Image

2.5" Abei (I think). I have 2 of them. The first guy puffs at his reflection almost every day when I turn on the room lights but as soon as he sees me he stops. The little bugger bit my finger the other day while I was cleaning his tank. I felt like a bite from a budgie.

#2 - Please ID

Irrubescos. I have 1 male and 2 females living together and another male living separately.

Another target that needs an id. Two pics of the same guy taken several months apart.
#3 - Please ID

And here are some puffers I no longer have. I've sold or traded most of them away.

Nice pictures! Why did you wait so long to post a hello? lol!

What kind of camera do you use?

I have no idea what the puffers you needed id are... #3 seem to be gsp morphs maybe? What kind of water is the puffer in?

Thanks! I use a Canon EOS 30D.

I've always thought #3 was a cochinchinensis or turgidus but I know how difficult it is to id them. All of my puffers are in fresh water.

I don't think #3 is GSP. I think it's too far off to be a morf. also, it has that one predominate spot... I beleive it to be Monotrete Turgidus.

and I'm pretty sure that is an Abei

... nice camera :D

Wow, you have quite the amazing puffer collection. Beautiful pictures.

I see your F8 is in a planted tank; at what salinity are you keeping it (if any)? It looks healthy, how long have you had it?

Thanks!

I only had the F8 for a couple months before giving it away and getting the abeis. It was kept in fresh water and was doing very well. I decided to go with only freshwater puffers after that so I also got rid of the GSP.

Thanks for your reply. I currently have a F8 in a 50gallon planted tank at a salinity of 1.002. While the plants are doing fairly well, I know the salt is having a negative effect on them. If the wax coating gets scraped off a leaf, it quickly melts away.

I know there was a study done showing that F8's live longer in captivity at salinities between 1.005 and 1.008, but I don't think plants were used as a variable in that study. Since F8's live mostly in FW in the wild, I would think a heavily planted tank at nearly FW would be ok for them. This is assuming the stability of the planted tank would outweigh (our at least even out) the benifits of the salt (nitrates have consistently read 0 in my planted tank).

#1 Abei
#2 Could be a washed out Abei but the snout theres something about it that is wrong, unsure at the moment.
#3 Cochinchinensis or Turgidus, i'm leaning toward cochinchinensis at the moment.

Thanks.
#1 and #2 came from the same batch but the local fish store I bought them from didn't have a clue what they were. I bought #1 first, then when I realized it might be an abei, I went back and picked up #2. Also, #2 is almost an inch bigger than #1. Could that be the reason the spots are more washed out?

Chris.

Abei's can wildly vary in colour, mine is only 3.5" inc tail and he's not getting any bigger, I have seen pics of some much bigger specimens, could just be that, he has the red tail tip, general body colour, snouts a little off that is what is making me not sure but everything else is pretty close.

Thanks everyone!

Lighting is either off camera flash or just the tank lights.
