but the problem is that i only have one tank. I was told never to add the salt (Sea Life Salt) directly into the tank. is there a possible way to convert his tank into brackish without buying a new tank?

i could buy him a new tank but im still living with my parents (im 16) and well, if you know where im going, then ill type no more xD

Take out a jug full of tank water,then dissolve a couple of teaspoons of salt into it.Put the salted water back into your tank slowly bit by bit.

If you do this over a period of a few days/weeks it should bring up the salinity slowly to the required level without stressing the fish.

Btw,I'm assuming he lives alone - if he has freshwater tankmates they won't appreciate the salt of course so you may need to consider another tank.

When you water change, put some hot tap water into the bottom of a jug, stir in the MARINE salt til it's all dissolved and the water doesn't feel gritty anymore, than add more cold water until you get the water the same temp as the tank. Add conditioner and hey presto...brackish water...

Use a hydrometer to make sure you're not over doing the salt and killing your good bacteria... salt needs to be added slowly over a few weeks.

.002 per week is acceptable. Just make sure to calibrate your hydrometer first to make sure it is on .000
