what would be a good alternative for clove oil?

my south american puffer seriously needs trimming but there is no clove oil available within the island. Someone told me alcohol is a good alternative but when i tried it on a minnow, it looked like it was tranquelized at first, but after putting it in fresh water, the fish didnt come back to life.
im sorry im about to go to sleep. ill check this right when i wake up

There is another liquid that's safer then clove oil. I forget what it's called but you can order it on fosters and smith.

Do you realy need to get them to sleep? i picked up mine whiteout any problems only to see hiss teath, so it should be no problems trimming them. =)

They will stress a lot if you don't.
Also having there teeth grinder would really make them squirm.
Imagine going to the dentist and getting a root canal, wtihout any novacaine or gas.
Basically clove oil= novacaine.

no he whas in the water al the time, i never trimmed there teath i have had them for maby 7-8 month, clove oil is realy hard to find in sweden!
So i also wants to know what els i can use

uhh i dont think that would be available in my area. i live in japan and well i live in a little piece of america. which is a naval base. i dont think the hospital would have em either.

You can always ask a veternarian, they might have it in stock or be able to order it for you.
If you can order from the Drs, they carry Finquil, which is a safer tranq than clove oil anyways.

I don't think DFS ships to Japan. You're going to have to get it from a vet.

You really have to trim his teeth ? Approx. how old is he? I have had my SAP for 9 mo and he is good to go. No teeth problems. Do you not feed him anything hard enough to file teeth? SAP's are so small I didn't think they would get very large teeth, kinda like DP's cause they are small.

SAPs basically need trimming more than any other puffer.

Interesting, good to know. I will now monitor his teeth as well, although he gets his fair share of snails.

the fish stores here dont wanna give their snails to me. dunno why
