Hi, my husband and I just got a pair. They are in a quarantine tank. Could the experts here please help us out on their potential cuteness, weirdness and mating habits?

The painfully shy boy...he tried to bury his head under the filter box. I was so afraid he'll scrap his skin off.


The frisky girl...swims quickly whole day long without rest. But knocks out at night.

How do you sex them? I have been wanting to get some too.

This shows just how "common" irrubescos are over here. The last time my friend checked, C328 didn't have any...

Ok think we're on the wrong frequency. C328 is one of the LFS in Singapore. It's tough trying to find irrubescos over here. They used to be more popular though.

creampuff, you mentioned that they cost about $0.60USD here. You bought a female? And you want a male?

This is the first time I see them! Are they that common? Maybe not in my 'territory', Bukit Merah. Quick, tell us where you have see them before...

I just went to C328 middle shop today but I didn't see them?! Where did they snuck them to?! I saw them selling for S$1 at Cichlids forever, Kovan. But they didn't have any males.

I stay at Bukit Merah too. How much did you get them for? Oh ya, did they have any left over when you bought them? Sorry for the bombardment of questions.

And hmm... they do look a little like lorteti. But they're irrubescos?

Hi. I went over to C328 today. They are all the way at the back, the very last tank with a couple of palembangensis and some green spotted. But there is only one left. And I think it is a male. Not very healthy though.

What?! Snapped up so soon? Anyway, uncle not very good at keeping them alive so I don't know if they are sold or dead. But if they were sold, you bet he'll bring in more.

Anyway, they are irrubesco 'cos the male has a red tail. When I bought them, there were about 10 left. At $2.50 each. Well, my husband was willing to pay at most $3 so when uncle said $2.50, he didn't bargain. Could have gotten it cheaper...

You stay at Bukit Merah too? Do you know the aquarium shop, Wuhu Aquarium? They have got really unique puffers. The shop used to be at Tiong Bahru Market before the renovations.

I guessed it must have been at CF when you saw the SA and female irrubescos. So far, I've only seen SA puffers at CF. I bought my fahaka from them.

Btw, what other puffers do you own? I know bsplenden has got a few types. He posts in AROFANATICS too. Well, my husband's the one who's into arowana. I've been discouraging him from getting one... We have a tank with datnoids, bichirs and a gar.

Wuhu aquarium? no.. where's that? I suppose I could check classified though. And no, CF does not have SAs anymore. They said they MIGHT be able to bring them in anyway. I'll see if I can spot any more irrubescos next week at Clementi. I work near there anyway.

By the way, this aquarium shop near Henderson market is closing down. Clearing their stuff at cheap prices I heard. They've GSPs and T.Abei. And a load of other fishes.
