Hi people

Well, I found another "pufferlover" here in my country, and we discussed a lot about F8. But you'll not believe... I was telling him what you've taught me about puffers. OMG, he keeps one puffer in a FW tank with cichlids, just measuring PH once in a while (BTW, PH 7 :shock: )and he has two more F8s that he will try to breed them in the future :shock: . I mentioned in another topic how hard it has been for me to find a F8, so I thought he could help me to do it... and I told him also that my puffer died after 25 days... So he began to say what he does to keep his "healthy" F8:
Food:
-brineshrimp (THE staple food)
-ground meat
-large Italian sausage
-dead fish;
Keep them in FW at neutral (7) PH and that's all, because they ARE hardy fish!!! :shock:

His fish has lived this way for one year and a half and it's still alive. And everything I learnt here and tried to say that could improve his fish livespam seems to sound like walrus and he said I should not trust in everything I read (but this IS the right place - PUFFER FORUM) - OMG, I cant' believe... But how could he trust me if my F8 just lived for 25 days and he keeps his for 1.5 year??? This whole thing was unbelievable!!! :shock:

Sorry for the long text, but I had to share this experience...

I am italian and I know that italian sausage is SPICY. That cannot be good for those fish. Nor is ground beef something that is prominent in the wild. None of that is good for them. The poor things are probably embalmed from the inside. :(

1.5 years in the life of a fish that can easily live into it's teens & even to 18+ years is nothing... He'll be very lucky if he gets those puffers to spawn, since there is no documentation of them ever spawning in captivity.

Poor little fish... At least I have a clear conscience because you help us with the best course of action, even if my fish lived with me only for 25 days. His puffer must have a wretched life... I forgot to mention sometimes this guy gets some BACON to fed his puffer!

I didn't find any documentation teeling about breeding them in captivity. And those foods don't make ME feel good, what good can those do to a little creature like a fish?

I'd have to say bacon is not wise for puffers either. Now, for me...that is a different story.

Maybe he should just drop an Alka Seltzer in the tank.

Isn't that a way to euthanize a fish?

oh sad. note to self, keep alka seltzer nowhere near fish.
