Mac my Lineatus has developed a large spot at the base of one of his fins, it looks like a zit we might get, he is still acting fine
and is still eating the param's are all fine

Nitrate 10
initially it was a tiny white spot when we got him 4 months ago, but it has got much larger in the last couple of days and turned red
not sure what to treat him with? took a photo of it not sure if ithas come out though
any ideas???

Hey, umm is it the pectoral fins (side). It would be some terminal stage pectorialorsis (pectorial cancer). Just screwing around!

Sorry but the pic isn't really clear. I thought it might be secondary degree of a inflicted wound, early treatment with primafix,melafix would help. But since you mention that this puffer have it since 4 months ago, I'm not really sure. Maybe some kind of parasite.

Not sure. I know sometimes marine puffers get cysts on there fins from stress, and sometimes they scar. It could be something similar.

You mentioned acne... maybe he ate too many chocolate bars, or didn't wash his face?

It is possible that it is a cyst. If he is acting fine, I wouldn't worry, it should go away on it's own. Do frequent water changes. There is nothing that you can treat cysts with also, but like I said don't worry he should be all right.

thanks for the replies, yes it looks something like a cyst and he is eating fine so i think we will keep an eye on it for now, i think we will do an extra water change midweek as well as weekend for a while and see what happens

Use some Melafix, should aid in the healing.
